Abstract:
With the development of power equipment toward higher voltage, larger capacity, and more compact structures, the multiphysics coupling phenomena—encompassing electromag- netic, thermal, fluid, and structural fields—inside transformers have become increasingly complex. This paper provides a systematic review of the research progress in multiphysics modeling of trans- formers. First, it introduces the geometric and mathematical modeling methods for oil-immersed transformers, elaborating on the governing equations of individual physical fields, including electro- magnetic, thermal, and fluid domains, as well as the approaches for multiphysics coupling. Then, commonly used numerical methods for the simulation of power equipment are discussed. At the application level, particular attention is given to partial discharge detection, especially the ultra- high frequency (UHF) localization techniques. The paper highlights that multiphysics coupled modeling combined with high-accuracy numerical computation offers theoretical foundations and methodological references for precise partial discharge localization and condition monitoring.
